Statement
Photo Reporteur is a photojournalism blog that aims to be a source of useful information for other photojournalists as well as offering an insight into the life of a photojournalist, what it takes to make images in the internet age, what social issues we have to deal with on a day to day basis as well as looking at the future of the industry.
Links on the site will lead the hungry surfer to photographers’ websites, leading photo blogs, equipment reviews, as well as other interesting photo related sites. At its core is an undying love for the art of story telling with a camera and the hope that photojournalism will remain true and with us for eternity. Kim is the 40-year old Regional Chief photographer Africa for international news agency, EPA Photos.
His responsibilities include daily photo coverage, budgets, office and staff management, assignment planning and the covering of major news, features and sports events, both in Africa and internationally.
On the news front, he has recently covered the inauguration of US President, Barrack Obama, the coup in Madagascar, the 2008 xenophobia attacks in South Africa, the 2008 Kenya post-election violence, the falls of Saddam Hussein in Iraq and Charles Taylor in Liberia, the aftermath of the 2005 Asian Tsunami, as well as various elections and resulting unrest in numerous failing Africa states. On the sports front he has covered the Euro 2008 soccer, 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, The 2003 cricket World Cup in South Africa, World Cup Swimming, MotoGP, President’s Cup golf, International rugby, All Africa Games etc.
Kim has also held various solo photo exhibitions including ‘Bikers’, ‘Sub cultures’ and ‘Mandela Portraits’.
Apart from that, he has had photographs included in pre-eminent South African photography books, has published calendars, and has been featured in various photography magazines.
In his spare time he lectures on photojournalism and tells the stories of ordinary people through his lens.
