Who looks after the poor animals - doggies and kitties? It is not their fault their human parents fell on hardtimes. I hope someone does soemthing for the furkids. It breaks my heart, does not matter in which informal settlement - it is the animals who suffer

No-one is immune from poverty, but from what I heard this is a result of deliberate discrimination by the black government.
It can't be otherwise (it's illogical) if another one million white South Africans live and work abroad, all around the world. Obviously something isn't right there.
Does this black government realise what will happen once more European people and governments learn about this?

no, you are not a confused one, for sure!
all that matters is the 'way' you are using the gear, analog or digital! I could bet that in a harsh situation, if you find an i-phone among the debris, you will use it like a 'hunter'!

if you miss somehow the chemical smell of a proper analog darkroom, just put a 16 Mb card in your Mk IV and change the shutter mode on single silent mode S. Or, try at least once to print a family snapshot, taken with your cell phone camera, on paper, at a decent mini lab. You will have a surprise :))
never mind the pixels!

...as a photographic retailer since the early 80's, one is astounded at the advances that is taking place, just about exponentially. Rogan Ward's assertion that "good photographers make good pictures "is certainly true. Interesting to note, though, how using a certain "tool" does affect the way a photographer sees...and produces. Certain cameras are chosen by photographers as it slows you down and "produces" a more introspective, thoughtful product.

I am, as I am sure you are aware. also a confused photographer. What I am certain of is that people make photographs. And good photographers make good pictures. Good gear helps, but it is not the answer.

well, intersting thoughts. first a camera is a tool. BUT as photography has a lot to do with emotions, i fee lthe need, that i like to hold that tool in my hands. let me say, i have to develop a relationship to it, if you want to say it that way: i have to, kind of, fall in love with it. I'm not too techy, so it has more to do with ergonomics and usability. in way i'm am lucky, because as i am working as an editor, no one urges me to transmit my pics fast, so it's up to me which tool i use. i can decide if i use a M6, be it Mamiya or Leica, a Holga/Diana, a pinhole, a digital P&S or whatever camera, it just depends on my moods or on what and how i ant to express what i see. if i read my text, i think i'm kind of lucky.... Cheers, Stefan
